How it works
From a leaf photo to practical guidance
CAWA SCAN helps you take a first look at possible coffee leaf problems. Here is what happens, step by step.
-
1
Create an account or log in
You can try the scanner straight away. A free account (name and email only) keeps your scan history safe and lets you see it on any device.
-
2
Take a clear photo of a coffee leaf
Photograph one leaf in good daylight, filling most of the picture, with the affected area in focus.
-
3
Upload the photo
Choose the photo on the scanner page, or use your phone camera directly. You can check, replace or remove it before sending.
-
4
Submit it for AI analysis
The photo goes to our server, which removes hidden photo data such as location and sends the image to an AI service for analysis.
-
5
Review the result
You see the possible condition and, where the AI service provides it, how certain it says it is. If it cannot tell, it says so.
-
6
Read symptoms, management and prevention
Each result links to CAWA SCAN information about the condition: what to look for, how it is managed and how to prevent it.
-
7
Contact an extension worker when needed
If the result is uncertain, or the plant is badly affected, ask a qualified agricultural extension worker to look at it.
Getting a good photo
- Photograph the leaf clearly, with one leaf filling most of the picture.
- Use good, even daylight. Avoid strong glare.
- Keep the affected area in focus; tap the screen to focus.
- Avoid blurred or very dark photos.
- Do not cover the spots with your fingers.
- If the signs are on the underside, photograph the underside.
Limits of image-based results
- The AI sees one photo of one leaf, not the whole tree, roots or soil.
- Different problems can look alike, for example disease and weather damage.
- A good photo helps, but does not guarantee a correct result.
- Certainty shown by the AI is its own estimate, not a measured accuracy.
- CAWA SCAN currently covers coffee leaves only.
